USAT-M preparation: build Biology depth without losing Physics and Chemistry marks
USAT-M combines the common Verbal and Quantitative sections with 30 academic MCQs from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Biology carries 14 of those 30 academic questions, while Physics and Chemistry carry 8 each, so your preparation should be weighted rather than split equally.

How to allocate study time for USAT-M
- Give Biology the largest academic block because it has the highest question share.
- Keep Physics numerical reasoning active instead of treating the subject as theory-only revision.
- Use Chemistry sessions that alternate factual recall with equation, reaction and calculation practice.
- Mix all three subjects before a complete mock so switching between disciplines becomes familiar.
Guide 03
Preparation risks to watch in USAT-M
- Spending nearly all academic time on Biology and allowing Physics calculations to become slow.
- Memorizing Chemistry definitions without practising the numerical or relationship-based questions that require application.
- Reading chapters repeatedly without a short retrieval test to check whether details can actually be recalled.
- Ignoring the 45 common reasoning questions because the academic section feels more familiar.
Guide 04
A seven-session USAT-M academic cycle
| Session | Focus | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Session 1 | Biology | One high-weight chapter: concept map → recall questions → short MCQ set |
| Session 2 | Physics | Formula meaning → worked example → timed numerical practice |
| Session 3 | Chemistry | Core concepts/reactions → application questions → error notes |
| Session 4 | Biology | Second Biology block with diagrams, terminology and exceptions |
| Session 5 | Mixed academics | Short Physics + Chemistry + Biology set without chapter labels |
| Session 6 | Reasoning | Verbal + Quantitative maintenance so the common 45 stay active |
| Session 7 | Mock + repair | Full category mock, then return only to the topics that caused lost marks |
Guide 05
Representative practice skills — not recalled exam questions
| Area | Skill to practise |
|---|---|
| Biology | Distinguish closely related processes, structures or terminology from the information in the stem. |
| Physics | Choose the correct relationship first, then calculate with consistent units. |
| Chemistry | Move between a definition, a reaction/relationship and a short numerical application. |
Guide 06
Do not forget the common 45 reasoning questions
The USAT-M academic section is only 30 of the 75 Part I questions. Every USAT-M student also needs the common 20 Verbal Reasoning and 25 Quantitative Reasoning questions, so academic preparation should not replace reasoning practice.
A useful final-stage routine is to attempt one full category mock, read the section-wise report, repair the lowest-performing topic and then wait until the method has been reviewed before taking another fresh paper.
Guide 07
USAT-M readiness checklist
- Can you explain a Biology answer without relying on recognition of the option wording?
- Can you set up a Physics numerical before looking at the answer choices?
- Can you identify whether a Chemistry mistake came from recall, concept choice or calculation?
- Have you attempted at least one mixed 75-question paper rather than only subject-wise practice?
